Each student receives a Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 device, featuring touch-screen capabilities, built in interactive stylus, robust build quality, and extended battery life. The school provides the device at a discounted rate in comparison to market value. As a result, the cost of this device to families is £410, which families contribute a minimum of £10 per month towards (families are welcome to contribute more, up to £410, to clear the balance ahead of the 41-month period). Once the device is paid for via these contributions’ families own the device and do not need to make any more contributions. Students will have the same device until the end of year 11. Students receiving the device at the start of Year 12 will have the device until the end of year 13.

Optional Participation and Support
Participation in the scheme is entirely optional. We are committed to supporting all students, and alternative arrangements are available for those who choose not to join. Every child will have access to learning resources and support, regardless of scheme participation. Please see the table below which provides an overview of the difference in experience between families who contribute and do not contribute to the scheme.

We will try our best to ensure the device will be returned to the student within 5 working days. Student will receive a replacement device in the meantime so that their learning is not impacted. If the device cannot be repaired, a replacement device will be issued. This cover will be at the discretion of the school and will not be provided if it is believed that the device is being mistreated.

Why does my daughter need a personal IT device? Having good IT skills is becoming a basic requirement of any employer. Children need to be prepared for an increasingly digital world. Research has confirmed that good home access to technology has a positive impact on a child’s educational achievements, often motivating them to do schoolwork by providing more interesting and engaging ways to learn when balanced with their own handwritten and creative presentation. Students can explore subjects that interest them in their own time.
Why can’t the school provide these for free to all students? The cost of the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 has been significantly subsidised for every student, however the school would not be able to afford to run the scheme if it paid for it in full. This is why we are asking families to contribute. If your daughter is entitled to the Pupil Premium grant and/or on Targeted Free School Meals, an additional subsidy will be applied to your order.
Who owns the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5? Families who contribute to the device will eventually own the device once their contributions reach £410 (students eligible to pupil premium = £205, sibling of student already on the scheme = £273.47).
I’ve already got a laptop at home; can my daughter use this? Unfortunately your own laptop can’t be used within school for several reasons including, safeguarding, functionality and the need to charge them frequently.
I have just bought my child a laptop, can this be used in school instead of Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5? Unfortunately, your own laptop can’t be used within school for several reasons including safeguarding, functionality and the need to charge them frequently. We understand that for those parents who have already purchased laptops, the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 will be an additional expense. To mitigate against this, students whose families do not want to contribute to the scheme can pick up and drop back a device each day, however the student will not be able to take it home or own it.
What is covered within the monthly contribution? The monthly contribution will cover the rent-to-buy of the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 and protective sleeve. It also provides warranty and Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 technical support.
How do I order? Parents can sign up to make contributions via Parent Pay. If you require any additional help with your order, the school can also help, please contact the school or email 121@bentleywood.harrow.sch.uk. Please ensure you include your daughter’s name and year group so our IT team can help you
When will contributions begin to be collected? Contributions will begin the month after you receive your Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5.
My daughter receives Targeted Free School Meals. How much will the school be subsidising the cost of the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5?
If your daughter is in receipt of Targeted Free School Meals, then the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 will additionally be subsidised beyond the subsidies already provided. The subsidy will not affect your means-tested household income for any state benefits you may receive.
Note – following recent Government changes, families who are in receipt of Universal Credit will be able to claim Targeted Free School Meals from September 2026.
I have more than one child. Will there be any sibling discount offered?
When will I receive the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5? If you place your order before the deadline, your child will receive their Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 during the first half term. The Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 will be delivered directly to school, setup and distributed. The device will be assigned directly to your daughter and will be their responsibility to keep safe.
I’m concerned about the additional screen time that my daughter will be spending on a device during school time. How long will this be? We don’t envisage that any child will be using their Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 for the whole day, every day. The Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 will be used when the teacher feels that it enhance learning for the students. We are very mindful of the impact of additional screen time and will monitor this regularly.
Will the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 replace books? Absolutely not. The Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 is a support to learning as an additional learning tool, not a replacement for any books or written work. We are passionate about the opportunities that devices and technology offer, but important traditional skills such as writing, sketching and group discussions will continue. The roll of the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 is to enhance and extend learning opportunities.
Will we need to buy any other equipment? No further equipment will be needed, and ideally every student should have access to the internet at home. The devices are managed by the school which prevents students from adding additional programs or software
What happens if my child leaves Bentley Wood High School before I have finished the contributions? In this circumstance families have a choice to pay the remaining balance or return the device to the school.
What happens if the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 gets damaged or stolen? Bentley Wood will support families with repairing or replacing the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 if it is accidentally damaged and stolen. However, the school can use its discretion to withhold this support if it feels the student has been careless or misused the device.
Will I have to set up the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5? No. We will be using the latest InTune Deployment from Microsoft. This minimises the setup time and process for the device and will ensure it has the necessary software for your daughter.
Will the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 be restricted? We use a secure management system to ensure that the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 are used safely and responsibly while in school and at home. During the evenings, weekends, and holidays, the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 can be used freely, however our safeguarding filtering and monitoring software will continue to operate.
Will my daughter be able to access social media sites whilst at school? The devices have been configured to limit or stop access to specific websites; this includes social media platforms. This has been introduced to ensure that the device is being used appropriately and is not a distraction.
Will my daughter be safe if they carry the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 to and from school? We all need to be aware of the risks that students could face on their way to and from school. They should be kept in their bags out of sight whilst travelling to and from school. Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 have the facility to be locked and any data removed remotely. In the unlikely circumstance that the Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 is stolen, Bentley Wood will support the student with a replacement if you provide the school with a crime reference number which the police will give you when you report the crime.
My daughter’s device has been damaged, will there be a loan device available? Should your daughter’s device require repair or is awaiting replacement, we have a small bank of loan Lenovo 300w Yoga Gen 5 devices which can be used during the school day until their device is replaced.
