Dear Bentley Wood Community,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. There have been many proud moments this half term which remind me what a privilege and honour it is to be the headteacher in our wonderful school.
Naming a few such occasions; I have been a judge at the Year 9 First Give Evening, and I was very impressed with the way the tutor groups represented their chosen charities, engaging staff and students with eloquence and compassion in understanding local needs. A selection of Year 8 students competed in The Fresh food Enterprise project, developing a marinating paste and competing with other schools to have their product selected for production in supermarkets across the UK.
I have visited many lessons across subjects and year groups and learnt so many new things, with students and teachers showing themselves at their very best. Walking one Saturday with Year 10 on their Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition was a real pleasure and cheering a huge number of award-winning staff and students at the Jack Petchey Awards Evening was definitely a night to remember!
As usual this half term ends with our spectacular Addams Family School production, 3 nights of amazing performances all produced and stage-managed by students from Year 7 to 13. Expertly guided by a highly talented team of expert staff, it never ceases to amaze me.
And then to end it all off, to see sixth formers deliver valentine’s day roses to their peers, showing care values, compassion and kindness in their actions make me so proud.
Enjoy your half term break I hope Year 11, 12 and 13 students take full advantage of any revision support on offer to them and I wish them all the very best in their upcoming Mock exams.
All the best,
Naseema Akbar Headteacher
